Day in my life in quarantine

Life nowadays have changed drastically for everyone. I feel that social media is filled with posts about work out progress or using this time to work more. This puts A LOT of pressure and expectations on people. Some days in quarantine will be productive and busy but other days will still be hard. I think that’s OK.

Everyone handles situations differently and everyone needs different things for their own mental well being. So I don’t think putting one goal or routine onto everyone works in a time like these. Some days I just want to relax and watch TV a bit longer than usual and THAT’S OK. Other days I try to stay busy and make plans to fill my day and that’s also OK. I think each person needs to do what makes them happy and take a break when they need to as well.

That being said I here is a day in my life during quarantine. Some things I try to incorporate into my days is a work out, a spiritual session, time carved out for my blog or studying, some days I have to attend classes and I always try to make sure that after 6 pm I don’t have to work anymore. This obviously varies from day to day depending on how I feel.


My day normally start around 7 am to 8 am. I always try to start with a spiritual session, for me that’s meditation. After that I eat breakfast, today that was just some toast with some green tea. After my breakfast I went for a walk with my adorable rescue dog. I am pretty thankful because I live in the countryside so when I go for a walk I don’t see any people and there is always enough space to pass by while respecting social distancing. Some days before my walk I will work out. I do this to get my exercise for the day out of the way so I can focus on work. This morning I didn’t feel like it so i decided to move my work out to this afternoon.

After walking, It was lunch time. I decided to make some pasta for lunch and it did not disappoint.

After lunch I always grab a cappuccino and I start studying for a couple of hours. I normally try to set goals of what to finish, for example, read a chapter or read certain case law. I found that setting a specific time for me to study didn’t help me focus or stick to my goals well.

After studying I worked a little on my blog and then I did my workout. Nowadays I try to do indoor workout routines, I always look up certain exercises for my core strength and some cardio. I always finish with some yoga poses and my favourite right now is the sun salutation.

At this point, it is 6 pm and I have finished work for the day. I normally try to relax a bit before cooking dinner. Tonight, for dinner, is a salad with some vegetarian sausages. It was very delicious. After dinner I always watch some TV shows or a movie on Netflix. Tonight I watched the movie Oceans 8. I’ve been waiting 2 years to see it because I just missed seeing it in cinema and wanted to wait till it was on Netflix. This week it finally is! I ended my evening by video calling loved ones. I am very grateful for technology these days, makes isolation a little less lonely.

I hope everyone is safe during these times and is abiding by the rules set out in your country. I hope everyone is taking care of their mental well being during these times and if you’re struggling you can always reach out to a loved one or friend or even a professional for help.

Top 5 cities to visit in the Netherlands

I’ve had the opportunity to visit many Cities in the Netherlands. The Netherlands is a smaller country which makes travelling to between cities easy, either by car or by public transport. So if you are thinking of taking a trip to the Netherlands, you should definitely try to visit one of these amazing cities during your trip. These are my top 5 favourite cities in the Netherlands and everywhere I love to visit while I am there.

  1. Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a great city to visit in the Netherlands. Being the capital city, it is a great tourist location. Amsterdam is filled with beautiful canals, which you can enjoy by take beautiful pictures from the bridges or by take a ride down the canal by boat. There are so many different boat tours available for everyone.

There are many museums in Amsterdam, truly something for everyone. Amsterdam is home to the famous Rijksmuseum, but also the Van Gogh museum and the Moco museum, which has held exhibits for artists such as Banksy and Roy Lichtenstein. It is also home to the famous Anne Frank House, which is perfect for a more historical and educational visit. Other tourist attraction, such as Dam square and A’dam tower where there is a a 360 degree lookout over the city, ensure that there is always a lot to visit in Amsterdam. Throughout the city there are also the famous Dutch tulips to be found, either at the markets or in plant pots within the city itself.

2. Maastricht

Maastricht is a smaller dutch city located in the south of the Netherlands. It has many churches, beautiful terraces and many shops you can visit. I personally love the character of the building and the beauty of simply walking through the streets. However, if you want a different tour around maastricht, there are also many tours you can take by bus and tour boats. There are also a few art museums. The most beautiful attraction is the Vrijthof and the surrounding churches. There are also caves you can visit in maastricht and a vineyard.

3. Den haag

Den Haag, or in english the Hague, is one of the larger cities in the Netherlands. It houses the Dutch parliament and the Peace palace, as well as the international Criminal Court and other international organisations. There are some tours available of these buildings, which provide an interesting look into the history of Den Haag. Den Haag therefore has so many interesting places to visit, as well as beautiful tourist attractions. My favourite tourist attractions to visit is, Binnenhof and Madurodam. Another beautiful aspect of Den Haag is that it is located next to scheveningen, making the beach easily accessable by tram from the City. Therefore, offering you a beautiful City and the opportunity to have a beach holiday too.

4. Utrecht

Utrecht is a beautiful City in the Netherlands located 30 minutes away from Amsterdam, by train. Running through the center of Utrecht is the Grote Gracht, a large canal. This is a must see and definitely a beautiful sight from the bridges. However, there are also cafe’s you can sit at on the edge of the canal. Utrecht is also filled with shops. It is easy to get from the station out into the shopping streets. I love just walking through Utrecht taking in the beauty in every shopping street. There are also many tourist attractions in Utrecht, Including the Dom Tower, St Martins Cathedral, DOMunder and the miffy museum. Some of these attractions charge an entrance fee however it is definitely worth the money.

5. Rotterdam

Rotterdam is another big city in the Netherlands. It is filled with shops for a quieter day, however, Rotterdam also has attractions for everyone. There is the old harbour and Marine museum, the beautiful Cube houses, the Erasmus bridge, the Euromast and Various museums.

The famous Kinderdijk windmills are located only 23km away from Rotterdam. These windmills are a beautiful UNESCO world heritage site. Here you will get to see typical dutch windmills, learn a lot about the history and how they work. There are also various activities available too, such as a tour boat. This is a definite must see!

How I study for law school

Have you ever struggled studying for class? Or wanted tips on how to study more efficiently? We’ve all been there! Studying at law school really took some getting used to. I had to give different methods a try before I finally was able to efficiently study and get great results. One thing I always try to remember is that some courses are more difficult than others or we encounter topics we have never heard of before and suddenly need to have expect knowledge for class. It is okay to struggle with some courses and find that other courses are easier to handle. This happens to everyone and differs from person to person. But a good study tips and tricks will definitely help along the way. Here is how I study for my law school classes.

Studying for class

My study routine begins with reading the book to prepare for my next tutorial or lecture. When I read the book I usually highlight the important parts; so key words or topics which are important, in one colour, and use another colour for articles of the law or important case law. This makes them stand out more when it comes to making notes or finding an answer during class.

I always make notes on what I have read from the book. I try to do this while I’m reading the book and not after the fact because I found this works best for me to understand each part in depth. So I will normally go topic by topic and make notes on that part after I have read it. After this is done, you then have an overview of the topics in your notes so you don’t have to go through the book again and the book is nicely highlighted so if you need to look back it is easy to find.

This helps me to prepare easily for the questions in class as well. Having notes of it all is also handy for the exams so you’re not stuck making the exam notes at the end of the semester, which leaves you more time for practising and memorising for the exam. This is important to leave enough time before your exams because there will always be some courses which are more difficult and need more time to be reviewed and understood.

How I structure my notes

Structure is key for note taking. Personally I like to make sure the headings are clear for topics and sub-topics. If there are multiple subtopics you need to remember then list and number them under the main heading and if there are main topics I always list these as well. This makes it easier to remember.

I also find that bullet points or lists help me summarise using mainly key words and keeps me from writing long sentences. When I have terms or case law I always put them into a table or use flashcards to make it easier to remember, easier to find and easier to test myself for the exam. Once again if you compile this list as the course goes along you save a lot of time before the exam and can focus on learning the material.

I also make sure that in my notes I always have the article for the law and the names of case law relating to the topic. Therefore, you get a feel for what articles and case law relate to each topic and make it easier to memorise for the exam or to find during class.

Time management

Managing your time is very important for studying. Especially as a law student there are a lot of readings to get through every week. I always try to plan out my days. Knowing which days I am very busy and planning in days to rest. This helps me see what time I have to study, for example before or after class, and make sure I leave enough time to get my readings done. I always try to estimate how long a chapter will take me and split it up over a few days, if possible. Then I don’t have too little time to read it all or feel rushed to stay up late every night to finish it. I also try to plan out the weeks to come. When you have an exam coming up, you need to be able to plan out enough study time in between preparing for classes. Therefore, It is very important to plan.

A tip which helps me is to go out of the house to study, if you can, whether that be the university, the library or simply to meet a friend to study. This helps me to stay focused and get my work done. If i stay home there are often distractions.

Ensuring you have enough time to study for the classes is so important because when there is a time constraint, you start to fall behind on reading the material. You also cannot fully participate in the tutorials and get a full understanding of how to apply the material. If you plan into each week, time allocated study slots, this will help you stay on track and helps make sure you have free time to relax as well.

I hope this will help anyone struggling through law school. Some courses are difficult and it’s okay to not understand everything straight away or even to fail. what’s important is to recognise there is more work to be done and to get right back up and try again.

Venice, Italy: my favourite spots and bucket list

Venice has always been a bucket list destination for me. Last year I finally had the chance to visit! I visited for three nights but I definitely made the most of my time there! Here are my favourite parts of Venice and some places I can’t wait to visit when I have the chance to return.

Getting lost in the streets of Venice

Venice is filled with canals and small streets that seem to lead in every direction. Getting lost in this city was truly beautiful.

If you plan on vising Venice, getting lost in the streets is an amazing experience, with so much beauty and sights to see, not near the normal tourist attractions, it is definitely worth just walking through Venice without a clear plan. Try to look up a few attractions you want to visit beforehand. Venice is filled with signs so If you know the which attraction you want to head to, you can just follow the signs and soon you will end up where you want to be. I did take a few wrong turns and end up at a dead end canal instead of small bridge but this is just a part of the Venice experience. Through this you get to see every beautiful side of Venice and not solely the main tourist attractions.

Rialto bridge

One of the most famous attractions in Venice is the Rialto bridge, and it did not disappoint! You can visit the bridge and get beautiful pictures of the bridge from the banks of the canal or a taxi boat. But you can also get an amazing view of canal grande from on top of the bridge. Both options will give you an amazing experience and get you to see all these wonderful aspects of Venice.

Piazza San Marco

Piazza San Marco is a large square in Venice housing Doge palace and St. Marks basilica. It is a wonderful location to visit and easy to find. It also has a few restaurants with live music, so you can sit, relax and enjoy the view. This square is also near the bridge of sighs and close to the water, making it a great spot to start wandering through Venice.

Guided tour down Canal Grande

On my last day in Venice, I chose to go on a guided tour down Canal Grande, instead of a gondola ride. This was partly because the gondola rides were more expensive and a lot of them fully booked beforehand. So there was no guarantee I would get to see Venice by water before the end of my trip. I chose instead to go on a guided tour down Canal Grande. The tour guide was very informative and I found it really fun to learn about the history of Venice and the history of the amazing palaces on the canal. This trip was by water taxi and with a small group of around 6 people. I would definitely recommend this trip if you want to learn more about Venice and get a beautiful tour on the Canal Grande.

Culinary side of Venice

Before eating or drinking anywhere in Venice I always checked the prices of the products and also the table charge. Restaurants or cafe’s directly on or next to big tourist attraction did have higher prices whereas other restaurants further from these had much lower prices. If you are on a budget this is something you should pay special attention to. In Venice I of course tried gelato, pizza, cappucino and penne quattro formagi. There is so much amazing italian and venician cuisine to enjoy and You get to enjoy it with some of the most beautiful views.

Bucket list for venice

Venice is of course filled with many activities and tourist spots to visit. I think that if i stayed for a week in Venice there would definitely be plenty activities and attractions to visit during this time. I have compiled a bucket list for when I am able to return to Venice.

Top 5 tips for creating a monthly budget

As a student I have to have a strict monthly budget. Something I am really passionate about is setting out my finances each month to ensure I don’t over spend and always have to take money out of my savings. This is the plan I use to ensure I can budget my month well and maintain a healthy savings for an emergency or to simply save up for something I want to buy.

  1. calculate total amount entering your account every month

To start with, you need to calculate the total amount of money coming into your bank account every month. This could come from a student loan or your job. Once you know a total amount coming into your account, then you can begin to calculate the rest from there.

2. calculate your monthly bills

Next up is your monthly expenses. This is anything from rent, gas, water and electricity bills, or a Netflix account. This includes any payment which comes out of your account every month. Once you know this, then you can subtract it from your total earnings every month to figure out what amount you are actually left with each month.

3. make a budget for food every month

The next step is to make a budget for food every month. How much you are going to spend on food and drinks, basically anything from the supermarket, every month. It might be easier to estimate if you calculate week by week. What also helps me is to think of meal plans and roughly how much they cost. This is important to first carve out the necessities of what you have to spend every month before you think about saving money or spending on fun activities.

4. make a budget for fun activities

I always try to budget ‘fun’ into my month. When I would say I wouldn’t spend money on coffee this month or not go out for lunch, I would always fail. So my new method is to plan fun things into my budget. For every month, I set aside a small amount of money to, for example, buy clothes, go out for lunch or dinner, buy a coffee or two or go to the movie. This way I have a set aside amount for each activity I want to do every month.

such as

  • €15 for coffee
  • €20 for dinner
  • €20 for a movie
  • €30 for clothes

In doing this I can keep track of what I spend on these activities and make sure I don’t go over budget. If I don’t do one of the activities that month, then I can put that money into my savings.

5. calculate how much you want to save every month

The final step is to put aside the rest of the money every month into your savings. It is important to have a savings for those unexpected costs that might come up. I normally put the remainder of the money into my savings. The first few months I tried this method I had some trouble estimating my food budget every month but that’s never a problem because you can always bring money back from your savings and adjust your budget the next month. You just need to make sure you keep track of your bank balance as the month goes on.

Saving money every month really helps build a reliable amount of money you can fall back on. Even if its a small amount it always adds up.

For example:

  • €20 every month (roughly €5 every week) x 12 months = €240 every year
  • €50 every month (roughly €12.50 every week) x 12 months = €600 every year
  • €100 every month (roughly €25 every week) x 12 months = €1,200 every year


  • January until March- €20 every month (roughly €5 every week) x 3 months = €60
  • April until June -€50 every month (roughly €12.50 every week) x 3 months = €150
  • July until september -€100 every month (roughly €25 every week) x 3 months = €300
  • october until december-€120 every month (roughly €30 every week) x 3 months = €360

Annual total = €870

Creating the right savings plan can help you build a strong savings, starting from even €5 every week. Certain months of the year might be easier to save in than others, but with an intentional budget and a savings plan, your goals can be reached. With a savings plan, it is always important to look at the long term goal, for months, a year or even years ahead. Whatever your goals, this plan should help to achieve them.

5 tips for Studying from home

I have not always been good at studying at home. There were a lot of distractions and I personally found it difficult to be productive. Over the past few years I’ve been working on how to improve at studying at home. So here are my top 5 tips for being productive while studying at home.

  1. Routine

Make sure that you have a daily routine. This can be an everyday morning routine, for before you start your studying, or a routine for after your breakfast to ensure you stay on track with your studying. This way you can also get chores or other activities out of the way before you start studying to relieve stress.

such as

  • 7:00-7:30 meditation
  • 7:30-8:30 workout
  • 8:30-9:00 breakfast
  • 9:00-12:00 studying
  • 12-13:30 Lunch
  • 13:30-18:00 studying

Making a schedule makes sure that every day has some free time, such as in the evening, to relax from studying. It can also help planning studying for in between classes and making sure you have enough time to cook lunch or dinner and have healthy studying habits.

2. Workspace

It is important to have a separate study space where you live. This could an office room in your house, a desk in your bedroom or a desk in your living room. You need a space which is designated for studying or working. Keeping this separate space helps you keep your focus. This also helps ensure that when you are done studying or working that you can relax and not worry about work, since you left that space you were studying.

A few years ago I used to try to study on my bed or on the couch in my living room but as a result I had difficulty sleeping and had difficulty staying focused on my work. Once I switched to a designated study area in my home, I could sleep again and I found it easier to focus on studying for longer.

3. Breaks

Plan regular breaks. Studies show that you cannot focus for longer than around one hour on a task so why force yourself to study for hours upon hours without a break. Breaks help increase the efficiency of your study sessions. These breaks can be short breaks after a certain amount time or after tasks or longer breaks in the middle of your study sessions. It took me some trial and error to figure out which breaks worked best for myself while studying.

An example of implementing breaks into your schedule can be:

  • at 10:00 have a 20 to 30 minute break; and
  • at 15:00 have a 20 to 30 minute break


  • after each chapter have a 20 minute break
  • after 60 mins of studying have 10 minute break
  • after 30 minutes of studying have a 10 to 15 minute break

Make sure that during these breaks you stay hydrated and get all your meals. I always make sure that I have a study snack with me for my mini breaks, such as chocolate or fruit, and I always bring tea and water with me to study. That way I don’t have to get up for snacks or drinks during my study sessions.

4. Fun

I always plan something fun to do after studying. This could be an activity on the weekend, something to do at the end of the day or a show to watch during your break. This always helps to give me a little more motivation to finish my goals. If you know you need to study for an exam or finish an assignment but also want to go see a movie the weekend before, plan this out. Therefore, you are extra motivated to achieve those study goals on time and still have everything planned and finished on time to do that fun activity you wanted to do.

5. Plan

Make a study plan. Write down for each day what you want to accomplish; such as reading a certain chapter, finishing your notes or preparing your exam notes. If you make sure you have a plan of what you want to achieve and set a timeline of when to achieve this, it keeps you focused and able to track what you are doing everyday. This also helps make sure you achieve what you need by that deadline and ensure you are not stuck rushing things at the end. This means I don’t have to stress because I know I have enough time to finish it. I can use this to plan around days I have to work or go to classes. I also plan free rest days into my schedule. Having a good study plan makes this all possible!

My everyday morning routine

Welcome to my morning routine. I am a university student so I have a little more free time in the mornings on the days I don’t have an early class. Every morning I wake up between 7 am and 8 am. I used to wake up pretty late, around 11 am, I was definitely NOT a morning person. I didn’t believe I could incorporate waking up early into my routine and enjoy it.

Forming the habbit

Then I realised if I wake up early every day, after approximately a month it will become a habit. So I started by staying persistent and woke up at 7 am every day. It was difficult at first but I found it important to get up straight away and have something to do, like study with a friend or go to the gym. Having a purpose for getting up made it easier to stick to the goal. After a few weeks it began to turn into a habit. 

That’s when I decided to start a morning routine to keep up the habit and it enabled me to get more done everyday. I really enjoy having more time in the morning to focus on my personal growth, whether that’s mental or physical health.

An intentional routine

I find it important to set an intentional morning routine. I always try to fill my early mornings with things important for my personal growth. This keeps me motivated to wake up early and I get plenty of time to focus on work the rest of the day. I start my day by using the first twenty minutes for spirituality, which I mostly use for meditating. After that I get dressed and do an at home workout routine.

But First… breakfast and coffee! I always start my day with a cappuccino or latte macchiato. For breakfast, lately I’ve been loving oatmeal with blueberries or bananas. 

After that I get dressed and do a home workout routine. My workout routine consists of mostly anything I can do on a mat, mostly focusing on my core strength, legs and arms. I always try to vary my workout everyday, such as covering a different area each day. Then I try some yoga poses before ending with some stretching exercises.

After exercising, my day of classes and studying begins, so I shower, change for the day and normally head out to the library or university.

I always hated the first day of class, when they would make you stand up and say your name, hobbies and why you like the course but here i go:

Welcome to Daily life & me. My lifestyle blog. I am a law student in my 20’s, living in Europe. I moved to different countries when I was younger but now I study at university full time.  Most of my days are spent studying for law school or attending classes at university. However, I try to keep a healthy lifestyle by eating healthy and exercising. I play squash, go swimming or find some other workout I can do in between. 

My hobbies include playing guitar, many forms of painting, photography… As long as I can be creative, I’m happy. 

I want to keep this blog anonymous so I can let my stories speak for themselves. I’ll be posting about my life, anything from daily routines, to studying for law school. I hope that my blog will be able to help others, whether that be to inspire someone or simply have enjoyable content. My plan is to simply write about what I enjoy and I hope you enjoy it too.
